European Science and Scientists between Freedom and Responsibility

P.J.D. Drenth, J.E. Fenstad and J.D. Schiereck (eds.).

Conference organised by ALLEA, 2-3 December 1997

Scientific work is unthinkable without the liberty to think, investigate and communicate. But more and more questions and limitations force themselves upon us; limitations with respect to the experimental process itself, and questions resulting from the products and consequences of our scientific inquiries. At present, more than ever, a reflection on the responsibilities of the scientist and critical analysis of the limitations are needed within the community of scientists itself. This book offers a survey on this matter
