Turning Recommendations into Reality: Implementing Mechanisms for Recognizing and Rewarding Peer Review
An Ideas Lab by the CoARA Working Group on Recognizing and Rewarding Peer Review
On 15 January 2026, the CoARA Working Group on Recognizing and Rewarding Peer Review are hosting a hybrid workshop in Berlin to exchange ideas on how to implement the Recommendations published in July 2025 on mechanisms to systemically acknowledge, and appropriately reward, peer review as a critical scholarly contribution.
The aim of this hybrid “Ideas Lab” is to bring together research stakeholders, including research performing- and research funding organisations, as well as publishers, to discuss how we could set up, and collaborate on, institutional/departmental pilots of (some of) the Recommendations. The Ideas Lab will involve brainstorming on such questions as:
- Which recommendations could your institution pilot and what outcomes will you be looking at?
- Who could your institution collaborate with on a pilot?
- How do we share lessons from such pilots?
The hands-on hybrid programme (still evolving) is envisioned as follows:
| 0930 – 1000 | Welcome Coffee |
| 1000 – 1100 | Tour de Table + Presentation of Recommendations |
| 1100 – 1230 | Breakout Discussions (Part 1) |
| 1230 – 1330 | Lunch |
| 1330 – 1500 | Breakout Discussions (Part 2) |
| 1500 – 1600 | Plenary |
| 1600 – 1730 | Coffee + Networking |
As in-person capacity is limited to 50 pax, we encourage you to register early to save your spot!
