BRIDGING THE DIVIDE: Depolarising the Conversation on Sustainable Agriculture

In this joint workshop, taking place in Lisbon (Portugal), ALLEA and Re-Imagine Europa (RIE) will explore the latest research on agrifood-related narratives in the EU, effective science communication, trust in science and expertise, and mitigating anti-science narratives and disinformation campaigns to develop pragmatic and effective policy recommendations on “depolarising the debate on sustainable agriculture”, particularly as it pertains to New Genomic Techniques (NGTs).

This invite-only event, hosted by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, brings together diverse stakeholders, including academics, scientists, policymakers, the farming community, and industry professionals, in order to exchange ideas on how to depolarise the current conversation on sustainable agriculture, an energising, and often divisive, topic.

The first part of the workshop includes presentations that will be livestreamed. This will be followed by a simulation exercise that involves participants “role-playing” and debating with each other by utilising the REFRAME methodology found in the Depolarisation Manual developed by RIE.

The workshop takes place within the ambit of RIE’s annual forum, ‘Depolarising Europe: Redefining Narratives, Uniting Futures‘, taking place in Lisbon on 1-2 February.
