Food Systems – The Path to a Sustainable, Future-Proof Food System
This conference takes place in German.
The supply of food has a significant impact on the climate, environment, and our health, and at the same time must meet economic and regulatory requirements. This conference discusses the challenges and possible solutions in the field of “Food Systems” together with representatives from science, industry, and civil society.
The aim of the conference is to contribute to the quest for a sustainable and resilient food system – with a focus on Europe, without losing sight of the global context. The focus is on the actual costs of our food for society as a whole because current food prices usually do not take into account all ecological and social costs. This cross-cutting issue of true costs also plays a role in achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
The discussions at the conference will partly centre around a recent advice issued by the Scientific Advice Mechanism to the European Commission on the request of College of Commissioners in June 2023. Two reports focusing on the question, “What tools could be used at EU level to overcome the barriers preventing consumers from adopting sustainable and healthy diets?”, were published on 28 June 2023:
- Evidence Review Report: Towards sustainable food consumption
- Scientific Opinion: Towards sustainable food consumption
