Ylva Engström

Ylva Engström studied Chemistry and Medicine, and holds a doctorate i Biochemisty from the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm. Her present research is within the life science area and is focussed on the immune system and on developmental processes linked to cancer, using the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as an experimental model. She has been a professor of Molecular Biology at Stockholm university since 2000, where she also serves as the Vice Dean of The Science Faculty since 2012 and as a member of the University Board. She has been a member of The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences since 2009, serving as the Vice Chair of the Class for Biological Sciences since 2016, and being a member of the Academy’s Research Policy Committee since 2017, and of the Academy Board since 2019.
